The Platinum Card® from American Express is one of my favorite credit cards when it comes to collecting air miles from credit card usage. This charge card from American Express, a GET.com advertiser, is a rewards card for big spenders who like exceptional rewards and travel privileges. Although The Platinum Card® from American Express has a $450 annual fee, I thought it's time to clear the air about this card.
In this AmEx Platinum Card review, I'll explain why people think it is such a prestigious card, and highlight to you its pros and cons. Read on if you are a discerning individual with a taste for luxury and travel perks, and want to know if The Platinum Card® from American Express is a good choice of card for your lifestyle needs.

Earn 40,000 Membership Rewards® points when you spend at least $3,000 in your first three months of having this card. Important note: Make sure to enroll in the Membership Rewards program as soon as you get the card.
Earn 5X points for flights booked directly with airlines or with American Express Travel. Get one point for each dollar charged for an eligible purchase in each billing period on your Platinum Charge Card from American Express as well as 4 additional points (for a total of 5 points) for airfare charged directly with passenger airlines or through American Express Travel.
Receive a $200 Airline Fee Credit annually towards baggage fees and more. You must first enroll and choose a qualifying airline at www.americanexpress.com/airlinechoice. Incidental air travel fees must be charged to your enrolled card account for the benefit to apply. These can be baggage fees, flight-change fees, in-flight food and drinks and airport lounge day pass. Airline tickets, upgrades, mileage points purchases, mileage points transfer fees, gift cards, duty free purchases, and award tickets are not considered to be incidental fees. Terms apply.

You must purchase the ticket through Platinum Travel Service or any American Express Travel office and pay in full with your Platinum card. Non-refundable American Express service fee of $39 (per ticket) applies to your full-fare ticket, the companion ticket and each additional ticket purchase and itinerary change.
For every $1 you spend, earn 1 or 2 points. You will receive 2 points for every $1 you spend when booking trips through the online American Express travel services website. Note that car reservations and non-prepaid hotels aren't eligible for the double points. On other eligible purchases, you earn one point for each dollar.
Redeem your points for rewards ranging from travel, shopping, dining to entertainment. If you are missing some points and you can't wait to redeem a certain reward, you can buy extra points.
Points don't have expiration date. This means you can accumulate your points and then redeem for any reward whenever it's convenient for you.
Global Lounge Collection gives you access to more than 1,000 domestic and international lounges across 120 countries including Delta Sky Clubs® and The Centurion® lounge network. However, you must first enroll in the Priority Pass Select Program. With this access, you don't even need to fly first class in order to enjoy all that an airport club offers - plush sofas, complimentary food and drinks, upscale washrooms, internet, and more. This is the thing I find valuable about this card. Take note that you will be automatically charged $27 per guest to your card after you have signed for the visit and it has been reported to Priority Pass by the participating lounge.
No foreign transaction fees. Some other credit cards make you pay a 3-5% foreign transaction fee when you use your card to pay in a non-US currency, but not this Platinum card. This means more savings for you, no matter which country you are in!

Fee Credit for Global Entry or TSA Pre✓™. If you apply for and receive Global Entry or TSA Pre✓™ membership, you'll receive a $100 credit (Global Entry) or an $85 credit (TSA Pre✓™) for the application fees on your statement. You keep receiving this credit every 5 years after you apply for Global Entry ($100) or TSA Pre✓™ ($85) and pay using your eligible The Platinum Card® from American Express. These services help expedite you entry into the U.S. when you get back from a trip. In other words, you can skip the cues at immigration and re-enter the U.S. speedily. The application process takes some time, and generally includes at least one interview. But it is totally worth it if you travel outside of the U.S. often, and if you have this card, Amex covers the cost.
No-worries shopping (Purchase Protection, Return Protection, Extended Warranty)When you buy stuff with this card, you will not have to worry, for example if you accidentally break something you have bought, this card may pay it for you. If you bought something from the store, then had a change of mind, and the store won't take it back, American Express may refund you. This card will also extend your warranty up to one more year to those purchases that have a 5 year or shorter warranty.
Our Least Favorite Things About The Platinum Card® from American Express
Annual fee of $450. Luxury comes at a price. The Platinum Card® from American Express is a luxury travel credit card and it does come with many privileges that you may appreciate, such as the two complimentary airport lounge programs and the $200 Airline Fee Credit. To me, the awesome benefits of this card outweigh its annual fee.
How Other Cards Compare With The Platinum Card® from American ExpressCiti Prestige® Card, a partner card, is another card designed for high-end cardholders. Unlike The Platinum Card® from American Express, which is a charge card that you repay in full every month, Citi Prestige® Card is a credit card which lets you carry a balance from month to month (you get a 15.74% variable APR. This card has a $450 annual fee, which is similar to the annual fee you get with The Platinum Card® from American Express. You earn 40,000 bonus points after $4,000 in purchases made with your card in the first 3 months that your new account is open (The Platinum Card® from American Express lets you earn 40,000 Membership Rewards® points after you spend at least $3,000 in your first 3 months as a Card Member).
Benefits that you get with Citi Prestige® Card include an automatic $250 air travel credit each year (you can apply this towards airline tickets, baggage fees, upgrades and more), complimentary 4th night for any hotel stay (for bookings of 4-consecutive-nights or more), complimentary access to American Airlines Admirals Club® lounges, complimentary access to hundreds of VIP lounges through Priority PassTM Select, complimentary greens fees (at over 2,400 public and private golf courses around the globe), and a $100 Global Entry application fee credit (similar to what The Platinum Card® from American Express gives you. You also get a global concierge service.
When you use this card to pay, you earn 3 points per dollar for airfare and hotels, 2 points per dollar on dining and entertainment, and one point per dollar on your other purchases. Like the Membership Rewards® program, the ThankYou® program gives you many different options when it comes time to redeem rewards. With this card, you can even transfer your points to a number of popular frequent travel programs and enjoy a 1:1 ratio (1,000 ThankYou® Points converts to 1,000 frequent travel miles or points in an eligible frequent travel program you are enrolled in). You can also transfer the Membership Rewards® you earn with The Platinum Card® from American Express to many popular frequent travel programs, as long as you are enrolled in those programs.
In my opinion, both cards come with their own set of unique travel and lifestyle benefits, and The Platinum Card® from American Express actually provides more comprehensive dining benefits, for example. If you want a credit card, Citi Prestige® Card is a good option.
If a charge card better suits your style, then The Platinum Card® from American Express is a hard-to-beat classic. The Amex card also lends a certain air of prestige which you don't quite get with the lesser-known Citi card.
The Platinum Card® from American Express is a prestigious charge card with top-notch travel and lifestyle perks that can easily make the high annual fee worth it if you actually use them. Pedro Pla
With a $450 annual fee, The Platinum Card® from American Express is associated with luxury and prestige. This card comes with many travel privileges such as access to selected airport lounges around the world, concierge service, hotel upgrades and benefits when staying at any of the 900+ FINE boutique, resort and luxury hotels around the world, and many more. Plus, you can earn 40,000 points after you spend at least $3,000 during the first 3 months of having the card!
You may have noticed that this card does not have an APR. That is because this is a charge card, not a credit card, and therefore you pay no interest charges. Since it is a charge card, you have to pay off your balance in full every month, and that is a convenient way to avoid debt.
The Platinum Card® from American Express has many benefits and rewards. If you are going to spend a few thousand dollars with it every month and are a frequent traveler, you could consider getting this card to make full use of its many benefits. Apply online and get a decision in 60 seconds. Terms and conditions apply.

I think that they forgot or I missed it in all the literature...this card pays for your Global Pass card as well..which is about $100.00 and is sooo worth it if you are an international traveler coming back to a busy airport. I don't think much about their much touted companion ticket...first you must book for a full fare..actually it's more than full fare it's the fare you purchase that is 100% refundable..and no matter what sale is going on you won't get a sales price...bottom line it ends up costing you the same as buying two separate tickets on sale...still for the really well heeled it may be a convenience. The jury (my jury) is still out on all of those fancy lounges..the international route that I fly doesn't really have them and besides if I am flying Business Class I get access to them regardless..

it really isn't over rated seeing how 450 is a small price to pay for the benefits. If you travel a lot, you get to show up the airport early and enjoy complimentary lounge and really enjoy your flight experience.

In my experience, the Platinum phone service is ANYTHING BUT. You call the number on the back of your card, and, after hearing 7 times how they will tape it (I hope they also listen to it) and 5 times being forced to restart and enter your number, you hang up out of sheer frustration... ANd this happens more often than not.
