Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard® is an absolute gem of a high-end credit card that offers amazing travel rewards. Many people in the U.S. aren't too aware of this card since it's issued by Barclays and not one of the usual US banks, but this is not any reason in my book to not rate it highly based on its many merits and perks. What we especially like about this Barclaycard Arrival credit card is you get to earn 2X miles per $1 of spending, which ranks it quite high among other credit cards on the market which offer a similarly competitive rewards rate. This card is a World Elite Mastercard®, meaning it is a very exclusive Mastercard which comes with many additional luxury travel benefits.

Things We Like About Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard®
Earn 40,000 bonus miles. As a signing bonus, you will receive 40,000 miles after spending $3,000 or more on purchases within the first 90 days of account opening. These 40,000 bonus miles equal $400 when you redeem them for a travel statement credit toward an eligible travel purchase! This signing bonus is one of the largest on the market currently, so take advantage of it before the offer expires.
Earn 2 miles per dollar on all your purchases. For every dollar you spend on purchases with your card, you will get 2 miles. This is one of the highest rates of miles earned for spending on all purchases that we've seen on a US credit card.
Enjoy 0% intro APR on balance transfers for 12 months. This applies to the balances you transfer within 45 days of account opening. After this intro APR period you'll have a 16.99%, 20.99% or 23.99% variable APR on balance transfers depending on your creditworthiness.
Earn unlimited miles. Each time you make a purchase with your card, you earn miles, and there is no cap to the amount of miles you can earn with your card.
Earn 5% of your miles back when you redeem. This means that if you redeem, say, 50,000 miles for any travel purchases (including airfare, hotels, car rentals, cruises, etc), you will receive 2,500 miles back 1 business day after your redemption has been processed.
Miles can be redeemed toward statement credit, gift cards and merchandise. When redeeming miles for statement credit, they can be used to pay all or a portion of airfare, hotels, car rentals, cruises and more travel purchases made within the last 120 days. That makes it easy for you to catch last-minute travel deals or make unusual travel bookings using this card and then simply reimburse your travel purchases by redeeming your miles for a statement credit towards the cost.
No foreign transaction fees. This is ideal if you travel overseas often and make purchases in foreign currencies. A money saving benefit since many other credit cards charge a 3-5% foreign transaction fee when you use your card to pay in non-US currency.
Outstanding travel insurance. If you are in the habit of paying extra for travel insurance, or missing out on insurance coverage because you don't like the extra cost, this card could be the solution. When you use this card to pay for travel, you enjoy complimentary travel accident insurance, trip cancellation insurance, baggage delay insurance and auto rental collision damage waiver coverage.
World Elite Mastercard® perks. This card is a World Elite Mastercard®, which is the most exclusive kind of Mastercard in the US. You get access to the Mastercard World Elite Concierge, which can help you save time by taking care of everything from finding a store selling a difficult to find item to choosing the perfect gift. Other World Elite perks include your very own personal travel advisor, available to help you set and reserve every detail of your next trip without any planning fees. You also enjoy special hotel perks including complimentary breakfast for 2 and early check-in/late check-out (if available) at many luxury hotels.
Our Least Favorite Things About Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard®
After the first year, you'll have to pay an annual fee of $89. Is the annual fee of $89 worth it? If all you want is miles, then you should consider carefully how much you will spend on purchases with this card, and how many miles you will earn on the spending. Remember you earn 2 miles for each $1 of purchases, and miles can be redeemed towards travel at the rate of 100 miles = $1 of travel purchases (you do earn 5% back on miles you redeem). So you will have to charge around $4450 per year to this card to earn the 8,900 miles you need to make up for the $89 annual fee you get after your first year. Since this card lets you earn good miles on all you purchases, you can easily use this card to spend at least that amount every year, and any spending above that is pure "profit". Plus, you would get 445 miles (5%) back when you redeem those 8,900 miles towards a travel purchase. Even if you only earn enough miles to make up for the cost of the annual fee, you would still have a World Elite Mastercard® with solid travel benefits to show for it.

The Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard®, with $0 intro annual fee for the first year, then $89, will suit you best if you plan to spend more than $4,500 a year on this card. Earning 2 miles per dollar on all purchases will let you earn miles at a really fast pace, even if you don't travel often. As a signing incentive, you can get 40,000 bonus miles after you spend $3,000 on purchases within the first 90 days, worth $400 toward travel statement credit. When you redeem miles towards travel purchases, you earn 5% back on the miles you redeem, a benefit that puts this card a step ahead of similar cards. You also get to enjoy 0% intro APR on balance transfers for 12 months (for balance transfers made within 45 days of account opening) and 16.99%, 20.99% or 23.99% variable APR thereafter, depending on your creditworthiness.
But the real benefits of this somewhat exclusive card are the travel privileges it gives you. Just the complimentary travel insurance you get with this card can save you a lot of money if you travel fairly often, and the concierge service and personal travel advisor can save you loads of time. All things considered, Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard® gives you very good value for money.
